Brett Palaschuk

A clip from the backyard piece in Dreams, Delusions, Delirium.

Dancer/Choreography/Design: Brett Palaschuk

Brett Palaschuk is a movement artist who has been practicing and working in Vancouver British Columbia for the last three years. After her recent completion of her Undergraduate degree at Simon Fraser University, she will now be working towards a Masters of FIne arts in London England.

This piece was one of five movement installations that were part of my graduating project at SFU. My project  called Dreams, Delusions, Delirium, was a five part installation that took place inside a house. Due to covid, the installation was filmed and each room was documented separately. The film shown is the final room of the house and it takes place in the backyard at night time. This room contains a woman with her back to the audience, in a dreamlike state with only a lamp next to her. By stripping back the space, movement, and costume I am able to leave the piece relatively open to interpretation. As an artist I am always looking to share or give people an experience that deeply resonates with them. To me, this project was all about creating an image that is not totally clear in the context of reality, but rather, it is a dreamlike image that creates a universal understanding for the viewers. I hope that everyone will see something in this work that is relatable to their life.
