Renske Werner

Renske Werner is a Dutch-born Vancouver local. She honed in on her craft as an illustrator after a long career as a writer. She still felt like telling stories, but she started drawing them instead of using words. Her work is mostly digital and created in procreate. She finds inspiration in the joyfulness of the every day, the simple things in life. But, she also strives to use her art to comment on the state of the world or share views she stands for. Sprinkled mostly with positivity and joy, her illustrations offer a pause in your busy day.

The work I submitted is relevant to these tricky times because all these pieces were made as I was living through it. It shows moods, a different type of togetherness and longing. It is not only the pandemic that rocked my world in the last months, but also the killing of George Floyd and Breonna Tayler and the learning and unlearning that followed for me personally.
